New Haven Museum to Hold Family Day at Pardee Morris House

New Haven, CT, September 20, 2012 - The New Haven Museum will hold a Family Day at the Pardee Morris House, located at 325 Lighthouse Road in New Haven, on Sunday, October 14 from 1 to 4 pm. The event, free and open to the public, will include craft demonstrations, children’s games and crafts and tours of the historic house.

John Cavaliere, owner of Lyric Hall Antiques and Conservation, will demonstrate the art of gold leafing, Mary Ann Langdon will be doing furniture caning and Michael Klem will be on hand to show what is involved in re-glazing period window sashes. Members of the Derby Historical Society will do a demonstration of spinning and weaving. CitySeed will do a canning demonstration.

Children can play popular games of the Colonial period or try their hand at crafts such as making their own ball and cup game, make a punched tin item or paint a pumpkin.

Members of Lancraft Fife & Drum Corps will be on hand to provide musical entertainment. A costumed guide will be available to conduct tours through the house. For those who wish to have lunch, Chestnut Fine Foods and Confections will have a variety delectable “goodies” available for purchase.

Located on the east shore of New Haven harbor, the 6,000 sq. ft 18th-century Pardee-Morris House was built by Amos Morris, a wealthy businessman, around 1780. Burned by the British during their raid on New Haven on July 5, 1779 the house was rebuilt by Amos and his son.
