Mark Twain's Hartford: Life in the Gilded Age

Join a local step on guide for a special tour of Hartford, one of the wealthiest cities in the nation in the late 1800's and the place Mark Twain called home for twenty years. Follow the footsteps of Twain as you view architecture and parks and learn about the lifestyles of the Victorian "gilded age" complete with quotes from Twain that will keep you chuckling.

The two hour motorcoach tour include stops for a walk around tour of the beautiful Victorian church and Parish House built in memory of Sam Colt, a tour of The Old State House, complete with living history guides from Twain’s past, and a tour of the gold domed Victorian Capitol Building including the magnificent rotunda.

After this fascinating look at "gilded age" Hartford, relax and enjoy lunch in the area.

Then top off the day with a visit to the home of Mark Twain, the magnificent nineteen room Victorian mansion, where Twain lived and wrote his most famous works. As you walk through the house feel Twain’s presence in the dining room where he regaled guests with stories or in the billiard room where he smoked cigars and enjoyed all night billiards. The house truly reflects the spirit of Twain and gives us a rare glimpse into the Victorian life of the "gilded age"
